Planets score sweep

Singles players Cece Crowley, Reese Hanna and Anna Bowser each won in straight sets as Mars’ girls tennis team swept Section 2-3A foe Shaler on Monday.

Earning doubles wins for the Planets were the duos of Claire Magness/Gracie McCarty and Bella Pazzaglia/Elaina Riegler.

North Hills 3, Butler 2 — The Golden Tornado (1-1) received a singles win from Laini Spohn and a doubles victory from the duo of Amy Waggoner/Olivia Porneluzi.

Girls Soccer

Seneca Valley trailed Fox Chapel at the half, 1-0, but received a goal on a penalty kick from Karly Majeski and the game-winner from Ashlee Libby in a 2-1 win over the Foxes.

Boys Golf

Hunter Swidzinski was medalist with a 34, but Butler lost a sudden death playoff to Mars on Monday at the Slippery Rock Golf Club.

The match was deadlocked at 184 after nine holes, forcing the playoff.

Colin Stevenson paced Mars with a 35. Matt Mueller added a 36 and Will Campbell a 37. Wyatt Kos carded a 36 for the Golden Tornado (4-2, 2-2) while Boden Lenyk shot a 38.

Knoch 222, Burrell 230 — At River Forest Golf Club, Mason Phillips fired a 37 to help the Knights improve to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in section play.

Knoch plays Mars Tuesday at Pheasant Ridge.

Freeport 201, Deer Lakes 215 — Jayden Diehl (38) and Lillie Snow (39) both carded a sub-40 score for the Yellowjackets (6-1, 6-0) at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club.

KSAC Mega Match — Moniteau placed second in the KSAC Mega Match held at Slippery Rock Golf Club. The Warriors tallied 233 as a team, 22 strokes behind winner Clarion.

A-C Valley/Union was seventh with 253, Karns City eighth with 271. ACV/Union’s Joe Rapp was second individually with a 38, trailing medalist Kameron Kerle of Clarion by one stroke. Karns City’s Chloe Fritch tied for sixth with 41. Moniteau’s Dawsion Wallace was 10th with 43, Karns City’s Joe O’Donnell 13th with 45.

Girls Volleyball

Audrey Lehman tallied nine kills and four service aces to lead Butler to a sweep of visiting Cathedral Prep by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-17.

Brynn Cornibe added four kills and served up three aces for the Golden Tornado, who also swept the junior varsity match.

Girls Golf

Seneca Valley improved to 6-0 with a tri-match victory over Mars and Shady Side Academy (172-221-221).

The Raiders were led by Lihini Ranaweera and Madison Sharek who shot a 34 and 36, respectively.

For Mars, Addison Pangonis carded a 51, Addie Nailler a 52 and Emily Barent and Makenna Myler both had 59.
