Hilliard

Barbara Helen Hilliard, 83, of Portsmith, passed peacefully to be with our Lord on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023. She was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Lyndora, to the late Steven Bachura and Nelle A. Smith.

Barb, as she was affectionately called, was known as Bubzie to her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a very kind and caring great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Barb was a successful retired secretary for various engineering associations and firms. She also worked part time as a Realtor and property manager for condominiums in Fort Myers, Fla., where she resided for many years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed golfing, competitive trivia and cheering for the Steelers.

With her amazing, brave spirit she was a two-time breast cancer survivor, inspiring us all. During her last days with us, she was cared for by her daughter, Laura MacIntyre. She was loved by everyone, never a bad word said.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her brothers, Richard A. Bachura and Donald S. Bachura; sister, Elaine Ann Maker; children, Laura L. MacIntyre, Matthew S. Mahalik and Mark S. Mahalik; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jacob, Jesse and Noah; great-grandchildren Alejandro, Armando, Luca and Callum; and a host of family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone she interacted with. Barbara, gone but not forgotten, a beautiful soul that will shine on.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at The Well Coffeehouse, Portsmith, Va.
