Robert C. Shay Sr., 86, of Butler, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, while under the care of VNA Hospice.

Born July 29, 1937, in Indianola, Pa., he was the son of the late Herman R. Shay and Lucy (Kohlmyer) Shay. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Fabik) Shay, on April 29, 1961. She passed away in 2020.

Bob proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, retiring after 33 years of service in active duty and in the reserves. He was a faithful member of North Main Street Church of God, where he served as treasurer for 60 Plus for 20 years and belonged to the Keenagers Sunday school class.

He also belonged to the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the Sampson Air Force Base Veterans. He was a Mason and retired from Armco in 2002. Above all, Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Kristina Reiser (Christian), of Renfrew, Robert C. Shay Jr. (Rhonda), of Haines City, Fla. and Steven Shay (Carrie), of Butler; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his brother, Russell C. Shay (Shirley), of Slippery Rock; his sister, Luceil McKinney (Wade), of Deale, Md.; and his nieces and nephews.

SHAY — Private arrangements for Robert C. Shay, Sr. who died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, have been entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.

Bob will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville with full military honors.
