Arthur Broge Jr.
Arthur R. Broge Jr., 80, of Gibsonia, formerly of Butler, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023.
Born Oct. 29, 1942, in Corry, Pa., he was the son of the late Arthur R. and Laura (Wright) Broge, Sr.
Art was educated at West Deer High School, Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Art was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, skeet shooting and reloading for relaxation. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and son during his retirement years. Some of his travels took him to Alaska, Australia, Eastern Europe, Iceland, Scotland and several western U.S. states — his favorite being Montana. He enjoyed spending many hours over the years with his brother-in-law, Mark, at the family farm and hunting camp in Grampian, Pa. That was his great escape to crazy adventures, peace and being close to nature.
In the past years, Art was very active in Scouting with Moraine Trails Council, having served as a scoutmaster for Troop 20, vice president of field operations for the adult wood badge training and an executive board member. He loved camping with his Scout troop during his years with Troop 20.
Art taught high school chemistry and math at Pine Richland School District from 1967 to 1985. In his last years of teaching, he taught in the chemistry department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from 1985 until his retirement in 2000.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Kristine Broge; his son, Arthur R. Broge III; his daughter, Erika J. Porter; and multiple nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Broge Hullihen.
