Harold Schnur

Schnur

Harold F. Schnur, 88, of Herman, passed away while surrounded by his family on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at his residence.

Born in Herman on Sept. 22, 1934, he was a son of the late Raymond J. and Mary Louise Michel Schnur.

Harold was a very proud and hardworking farmer. He was known for his sense of humor and often brought a smile, laugh or cackle, even to those most difficult to crack.

At family gatherings, even when the home seemed overflowing with grandchildren bubbling with commotion and chatter, Harold would always say “ … all I wanted was a hug.”

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.

He served for more than 24 years as a Jefferson Township supervisor and a Summit Township supervisor. He also belonged to the Herman Volunteer Fire Company and the RC Men’s Club. A longtime volunteer at St. Mary Church, he especially helped with the fish fry.

For 40 years, Harold and Gloria took in foster children. They welcomed as many as four siblings at a time into their home.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gloria R. Cypher Schnur, whom he married Feb. 14, 1953; two sons, Terry Schnur and his husband, Jason Martin, of Pittsburgh and Larry Schnur and his wife, Joyce, of Butler; two daughters, Alice Campbell and her husband, Bill Ross, of Saxonburg, and Ann Schnur and her husband, Jeff Speakman, of Saxonburg; two brothers, Lloyd Schnur and his wife, Joanne, of Butler, and Glen Schnur and his wife, Erica, of Gibsonia; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by two sons, David Schnur and Michael Schnur; granddaughter, Becky; three brothers; and one sister.

Gloria and her family extend special heartfelt thanks to all of Harold’s caregivers, including Janet, Good Samaritan Hospice, and, especially, great-grandchildren, Lexy and Dalton.
