Tony Fratto set a weightlifting record in 1970 when he hoisted 560 pounds in the squat position and 1,560 pounds in total weight at a national competition in Denver.

The Butler athlete won the 1970 Junior National title in the 181-pound division, bringing home a belt and several medals for his feats of strength.

Fratto’s “weightlifting buddy” Delmar Silk, held the belt for a photo alongside Fratto, and said he hoped to try the national competition the next year, following his results in an Erie competition he would soon attend.

The name of Delmar Silk was corrected on Aug. 15, 2023.
