Former employee accused of using clients’ gift cards
A former employee of the Tri-County Workforce Investment Board is accused of using over $1,000 in gift cards originally intended for clients, according to city police.
Lori Dofner, 39, of Butler, was charged with felony access device fraud in connection to the incident.
A representative of the investment board contacted police after being informed that gift cards distributed to clients did not have any money on them, documents showed.
The representative said $1,480 in gift cards had been used at Walmart and $160 had been used at Sheetz.
Dofner was identified as making all of the purchases, police said.
Dofner was given access to the gift card information through spreadsheets while working at the Tri County Workforce, the representative told officers.
Police said that during an interview with Dofner, she admitted to taking a picture of the spreadsheets, which had card numbers and pin numbers on them. She told police she transferred the money from the gift cards to herself to make purchases.
Dofner’s preliminary hearing before District Judge William Fullerton is scheduled for Aug. 14.
