Richard Uber

Uber

Richard “Rick” Uber, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away April 14, 2023, at the age of 72, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug, 21, 1950, in Grove City, and was the son of Harold and Melville Jane Uber. He graduated from Slippery Rock High School. In 1972 he received a degree from Youngstown State University in electrical engineering. Rick’s sister Melane introduced him to Kathy Ann Croll. Rick and Kathy were married on June 1, 1973. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Mike and Carrie.

Rick had a long career with Cooper Industries. In 1989 the company moved the family to The Woodlands, Texas. After retirement from the corporate world, Rick began his second career as a handyman. He started his own company, RU Services, and served many customers in the Montgomery County area for many years. He had wonderful woodworking skills and built beautiful cabinets from scratch. He never “officially” retired from his second career.

In addition to his two main careers, for 16 years he served with the Harrisville & Corry Volunteer Firefighter/EMT Departments in Pennsylvania, he spent 25-plus years working with Habitat for Humanity and leading many different companies/organizations. Rick never turned down an opportunity to lend his skills and work to those in need. He enjoyed the outdoors, helping others — even on holidays — and sneaking the occasional Klondike bar or sweet treat. Papa, as he was fondly known, loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was very proud of their achievements and enjoyed attending their events.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; a son, Michael Uber and wife, Jennelle, of The Woodlands; a daughter, Carrie Uber and her husband, Mark Chambers, of Bella Vista, Ark.; and his grandchildren, Sami, Charli and Randi Uber of The Woodlands, Texas, and Ryker and Sloane Chambers of Bella Vista, Ark. He also is survived by his three younger sisters and two in-laws from Pennsylvania, Melane and Chuck Glenn, Cinda and Merrick Husband, Doreen and Chuck Cline, Mike Croll (Darlene Kersey) and John and Pam Croll. He was admired and loved deeply by his many nieces and nephews, who all have such great memories of Uncle Rick.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Melville Jane Uber; his in-laws, Sam and Ethel Croll; and brother-in-law, Joe Humphrey.
