Pirates’ Shelton gets All-Star Game bid

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Pirate manager Derek Shelton has been asked to be part of the National League coaching staff for the MLB All-Star Game July 11 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Shelton will be making his All-Star Game debut. He was asked by National League manager and Philadelphia Phillies skipper Rob Thomson to join the staff, alongside his Phillies coaches.

County gridders play in D-10 game

MEADVILLE — Ten Butler County high school football players saw action for the South squad in the annual West Penn Coaches Association District 10 Football All-Star Showcase recently at Allegheny College.

Butler’s Deshawn Cox and Declan Dobson, Slippery Rock’s Lucas Allison, Maddox Allen, Braiden Reich and William “Zip” Mokel, Karns City’s Micah Rupp, Nate Garing, Levi Hawk and Cooper Coyle all played in the game.

The North defeated the South, 36-0.
