Rodger “Beetle” Betty, 77, of Butler passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, after fighting a valiant battle with MDS from the water while at Camp Lejeune.

He was born in Butler on June 30, 1945, and was the son of the late Paul and Frances (Girard) Betty.

After graduating from Butler High School in 1963, Rodger served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a corporal. While serving, he trained to be a drill instructor and was on the Marine boxing team. He then started a 42-year career for ARMCO until his retirement.

Rodger was known for being hardworking, regimented, committed, persistent, and was a “fighter.” He was a great dad, husband, and loving grandfather. Rodger was very athletic and was a Golden Glove boxer in high school. He was an avid gardener and loved to read.

Rodger was the beloved husband of Linda (Wiles) Betty since their marriage in 1982; father of Andrea (Ryan) Logan, and Brandon (Samantha) Betty; brother of Paula (Chuck) McKee, and Brent Betty; loving grandfather of Amelia, Alison, and Breanna. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Frederick Wiles.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Betty.

BETTY — Family and friends of Rodger “Beetle” Betty, who died Thursday, June 22, 2023, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.

A funeral service with full military honors will immediately follow in the funeral home.

Burial will be held privately at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery.
