Butler man arrested for robbery, drug possession incidents

A Butler man was accused of robbing someone of thousands of dollars at a city bus stop last week and was brought in on drug charges a few days later, according to police.

Zackary S. Rush, 27, was charged Saturday, June 17, with felonies robbery and theft, and was then charged with three counts of misdemeanor use and possession of drug paraphernalia a day later.

Police said around 1 p.m. June 15, a man reported being robbed on West Cunningham Street near Family Video.

As he was waiting for a bus, the man told police Rush approached him and asked for $10 to pay for a prescription.

Police said the man produced a stack of cash wrapped in a rubber band and removed the money Rush requested, but Rush took $3,500 and ran.

Rush was apprehended and released on unsecured bond June 18, documents showed.

That same day, police responded to reports of Rush passing out on a porch on Brady Street.

Police said he showed signs of impairment when being taken into custody. In addition, 22 full stamp bags of heroin, hypodermic needles and a crack pipe were found on his person, police said.

Rush was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond June 18. His preliminary hearing before District Judge William Fullerton is scheduled June 26.
