Murphy

David D. Murphy, 81, of Cabot, Winfield Township, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Allegheny UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh with his family by his side.

He was born June 8, 1942 in Canonsburg, to the late David Austin and Freda M. (Yoder) Murphy.

Dave graduated from Fort Cherry High School in 1960, and received his bachelor of science degree in industrial arts at California University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years, with one overseas tour during the Vietnam War.

Dave taught industrial arts at Grove City and Fox Chapel schools. He worked at J&L Steel South Side Works and LTV Steel in Youngstown, Ohio, in the personnel department. He finished his professional career as director of human resources for Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge, prior to his retirement in 2003.

David served as a lay pastor from 2008 until 2018 for Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church of Templeton and Concord Presbyterian Church of Dayton, Pa. He was a member of the Freeport Presbyterian and Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian churches, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. Dave also was a former member of the Freeport Area Kiwanis Club.

Dave had many talents and enjoyments, living life to the fullest. He was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking, painting and more. He was considered a “hobbyist.” His largest hobby accomplishment was building a boat, which brings us to his true avocation in life, fishing off the shores of Emerald Isle, N.C.

Dave leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, J. Karen (Revella) Murphy of Winfield Township, whom he married on June 15, 1963; his son, David (Stacey) Murphy of London, Ohio; his daughter, Jennifer M. (Lysle) Kapp of Sarver; his grandchildren, Kaylyn, Hannah, Austin, Leah, Marshall and Ethan; his two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Henry and soon to be Sullivan.
