Stempler

Bertha “Jean” Stempler, 92, of Ellwood City, formerly of Cranberry Township, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023.

Born Oct. 9, 1930, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Albert Hartman and Launa Lockard Hartman.

Catholic by faith, Jean had attended St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock. She enjoyed working at the Checker Gas Station in Wexford, which she operated alongside her late husband, Lou. She and her husband enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their RV. Jean was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams. She will always be remembered for her warm and welcoming smile, and dearly missed by her family.

Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Louis J. “Lou” Stempler Jr. (Denise) of Woodstock, Ga., Linda Peterson of Lakeland, Fla., William Stempler (Cindy) of Sarver, Stephen Stempler (Rose) of Bethel Park, Susan Alvin (Ken) of Ellwood City, Mark Stempler (Linda) of Tuttle, Okla., Beverly Evans (Russ) of Harrisville and Sharon Stempler of Ellwood City; her 17 grandchildren; her 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jacqueline Dragics of Washington, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Louis J. “Lou” Stempler, whom she married on July 25, 1950, and who passed away on June 26, 2016; and her brothers, William Hartman and Albert “Sonny” Hartman.

STEMPLER — Friends of Bertha “Jean” Stempler, who died Friday, June 16, 2023, will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of the blessing service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband at Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry Township.
