Butler man charged with assault, strangulation
A Butler man is accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment and strangling her during an altercation before stealing her car, according to charges filed Sunday, June 11.
Jedediah L. Owens-Vickers, 30, was charged with felonies burglary, strangulation and theft and misdemeanor simple assault for an incident earlier that day.
He was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Police said they responded to report of an assault at a North Main Street apartment in Butler which started when Owens-Vickers entered the woman’s home and began an argument about her vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am.
As the argument escalated, the woman told Owens-Vickers she would call 911, but he threw her phone before she could, according to charging documents.
Owens-Vickers then dragged the woman down the stairs by her hair and continued punching her, police said.
Documents showed Owens-Vickers left the apartment with the woman’s car keys, and the woman locked him outside.
Police said Owens-Vickers forcibly re-entered the apartment and began assaulting the woman when she attempted to call 911. He then left a second time with her vehicle, police said.
Throughout the altercation, Owens-Vickers dragged, body-slammed, punched, kicked and strangled the woman, charging documents showed.
Police said a witness corroborated the woman’s explanation of the events and the woman’s injuries and the damage to the apartment door were consistent with her story.
The woman also told police she did not give Owens-Vickers permission to use the vehicle.
A preliminary hearing for Owens-Vickers before District Judge William Fullerton is scheduled for Monday, June 19.
