Robert Stewart

Stewart

Robert H. “Bob” Stewart came into this world on Nov. 12, 1932, and passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the age of 90.

Born in Summit Township, he grew up in the Butler area with his parents, Harry L. and Dorothy J. (Blakley) Stewart and three siblings.

As a young boy, he liked spending time with his grandfather, who would hide chewing tobacco under his porch for Bob to sneak. Later, as a young man, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to1955, stationed in Germany.

On June 16, 1956, he married the love of his life, the beautiful Donna Rex and from that moment on they became inseparable. They spent 60 years together, side by side and hand in hand, living life to the fullest. If you saw Bob out and about, you’d find Donna not far away.

They traveled near and far touring the U.S. and Europe, with Gatlinburg and Florida among their favorites. The two of them kept active with years of square dancing and miles of bicycling. Unforgettable times were to be had at their campsite sitting ’round the fire where tales were told and drinks were poured well into the night. It was likely to see Bob wearing a ball cap and plaid shirt while sitting down to enjoy pancakes at Valley Dairy.

He prided himself in caring for his vehicles and trimming his hedges and genuinely enjoyed classic country music to the very end. He had a particular way of doing things and had no hesitation in sharing his instruction.

He worked for the Butler Water Company until retiring in 1994, after 44 years of service. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, VFW and American Legion. He was a lifelong member of what was originally St. Paul’s United Reformed Church.

Those awaiting his arrival in Heaven include Donna, his parents, and his brothers, Lawrence and Leslie Stewart.

Those still here to cherish the special memories include his sister, Shirley Marshall, and her husband, George, of Penn Township; his brother-in-law, Melvin D. Rex, and his wife, Carolyn, of Pittsburgh; and many special nieces and nephews (and their children) who fondly recall time spent with Uncle Bob.

The family cannot express enough gratitude to the staff of Newhaven Court and Butler Memorial Hospital for their unconditional love and the gracious care they bestowed upon “Uncle Bob” as well as the support given to the family.
