Harrisville man charged with assault
Harrisville police charged a man with assault for throwing food and a kitchen cabinet, as well as injuring a responding officer, according to documents.
Ryan J. Batra, 25, was charged last week with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and summary criminal mischief following a May 31 incident at a borough residence.
Police responded to a report of a disturbance around 4 p.m., where Batra allegedly ripped a cabinet from a wall and threw it.
When officers arrived, they said they observed Batra talking on the phone and food covering the kitchen floor. According to documents, Batra refused to comply with police orders to hang up the phone and sit on the couch.
Police said he then began yelling at a woman in the house and an officer had to get between them. Batra then threw a pack of hamburger buns at the woman, simultaneously hitting the officer in the head, documents showed.
Police said Batra was taken to the ground and continually resisted officers. Batra grabbed at the officers head during the struggle, resulting in multiple scratches and marks.
The affidavit showed a man at the residence assisted in restraining Batra so he could be handcuffed by police.
Batra’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph Nash is scheduled for Aug. 9.
