Butler 18-year-old accused of burglary, assault over PlayStation 5

Police said a hand tattoo helped link an 18-year-old man to a burglary and the theft of a PlayStation 5 that occurred Sunday, June 4, in Fairview Township.

The tattoo was displayed on the Facebook page of Aiden J. McKinley, of Butler, which a witness used to identify the hands that he told police assaulted him during the incident.

McKinley was charged Monday, June 5, with felonies burglary, robbery and criminal trespass and misdemeanors simple assault, theft and criminal mischief.

Police said they responded to a report of a robbery at 4:34 a.m. The witness told officers he was playing video games on his PlayStation 5 when McKinley entered the house through a locked door.

Surveillance footage viewed by police showed someone approaching the residence around 4:20 a.m. and fleeing the scene five minutes later.

In an interview with police, the witness said McKinley was wearing a black ski mask. While in the house, McKinley allegedly punched the witness in the face four times and then left with the PlayStation 5, police said.

A TV was damaged during the incident, according to the affidavit.

The witness told officers he identified McKinley by his voice, viewing part of his face and a tattoo on McKinley’s left hand he observed during the assault.

The witness provided officers with photos from McKinley’s profile on Facebook, which showed the tattoo on his left hand.

Police said they also confirmed that McKinley received a ride from a friend to the Fairview Township residence at 4 a.m. Sunday. The friend told officers McKinley was gone for a few minutes and returned with a what appeared to be a PlayStation 5.

A preliminary hearing for McKinley has not yet been scheduled.
