Herbert Charles Hitchens peacefully transitioned from this world on Friday, June 2, 2023, with his beloved dog, Buddy, by his side.

Herb was the son of the late Herbert Sr. and Dorothy Ruth (Dechert) Hitchens.

Herb was an honored lifetime member of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company with 55 years of service to his community. An original organizer of the Saxonburg Fire Police Division, he wore may hats throughout that time including captain and assistant captain. He was also a member of the PA State Fire Police Association and a life member of the Butler County Fire Police Association.

Herb enjoyed collecting ’57 Chevys, camping, playing cards, weekend drives and sharing the gift of laughter with his jokes. Herb was always the fella you called to help you out of any predicament.

He is survived by his adored wife, Marysue, and their dog, Buddy; his children, David, Danielle (Mike Guthrie) and Kimberly (Raymie Blystone); his grandchildren, Christopher (Megan) and Rodger (Emily); three great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

He will be missed by many friends, particularly his brothers and sisters of the Saxonburg Fire Police.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Willa (Gift) and Joyce (Ogilvie); and his best friends, Rodger Turner and Howard Kelley.

HITCHENS — Friends of Herbert Charles Hitchens, who died Friday, June 2, 2023, will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, 290 Horne Ave., Saxonburg. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Casual attire is requested.

At his request, interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company c/o Saxonburg Fire Police, 290 Horne Ave., Saxonburg, PA 16056.
