It’s easy to miss what’s right under our noses, but Butler County has lots of good things to offer — plenty for families to enjoy right here within the county’s borders.

In today’s print edition of the Butler Eagle, you’ll find a 16-page insert that details this potential summer fun. This is fun that we’d encourage you and your family to check out.

There’s a list of ten pools, numerous park programs, summer camps and about two dozen area events and festivals to keep anyone in Butler County entertained from the end of the school year to the start of the next.

It’s worth checking out. While some cost an admission fee or membership fee, many are free. Additionally, numerous parks scattered across Butler County offer outdoor fun for free.

And while we won’t discourage you from booking your beach vacation, we do encourage you to spend at least a weekend embracing what Butler County has to offer.

If you do find, however, that a staycation is right for you and your family, you may find some surprising benefits.

According to an April 2023 article by Pacaso, four days of travel for a family of four comes to $1,970. That’s $1,320 for domestic plane tickets, $130 for airport parking, $292 for a rental car and $228 for gas.

Of course, those who go on vacation want to find things to do, too. Pacaso estimates those vacationing in 2023 will see museums cost $15 to $32 per person, concerts cost $96 and amusement parks cost from $60 to $266 per day.

Even national parks sometimes come with parking fees. Pacaso’s analysis estimates a $35 per vehicle charge.

Tack on another estimated $46 per person per day for food, according to the breakdown of predicted expenses, and you may find Butler County even more appealing.

For a four-day long vacation featuring daily meals, a $15 museum and a concert, the cost for a family of four is an average of $2,356, according to Pacaso.

A May 2023 analysis by Elite Personal Finance predicted even more expensive vacation costs. The analysis proposed one person’s average cost for one week vacation in America would amount to $1,558, including transportation, lodging, food and alcohol and entertainment.

That’s a $6,232 cost over a week for a family of four.

An April article by AAA cites avoiding travel headaches, stretching your budget and bringing your pets along as added bonuses to a staycation.

So, whether you stay local or just take some time to be aware of the things to do in Butler County, there’s certainly no reason to be bored this summer.
