3 Butler Area students compete in Orlando

Three students from Butler Area School District competed in the Academic Games League of America competition in April in Orlando, Fla.

Andrew Benjamin, a seventh-grader at the intermediate high school; Easton Floris, a sixth-grader at the intermediate high school; and Blake Giocondo, a fifth-grader at Northwest Elementary qualified for the national tournament and traveled to Orlando to compete.

Prior to traveling to Orlando, students competed regionally against teams within the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV at Slippery Rock University. They then competed in a state level competition at Grove City College.

Their performance in the local and state level competitions qualified them for nationals.

Academic Games Leagues of America is "dedicated to developing 'thinking kids' of character, integrity, and excellence." Students are challenged to use higher order thinking skills in the subjects of mathematics, language arts and social studies.
