Charles Davey

Davey

Charles “Chuck” Harper Davey, 91, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

Chuck was known to often ask how many days he had been on this earth. Although he often professed that “no one can tell me I can’t live to be 100 years old,” he tallied an impressive 33,307 days.

Chuck was born on Feb. 24, 1932, in Pittsburgh, to Ernie Davey and Marcella Good.

He resided with his wife of more than 71 years, Annabelle (Knauer) Davey, in Zelienople, until her stroke in 2017, leading them both in care within the St. Barnabas Health System.

Chuck was an employee of Werner-Continental and Hall’s Motor Transit for 36 years.

He pursued his lifelong dream of flying an airplane by obtaining his private pilot’s license at the Condor Aero Club of Zelienople. He owned a Piper Tri-Pacer and spent countless hours in “the sky, the sky, the inviting open sky.” In his later years, he diligently worked to master riding a unicycle.

In addition to his wife, Chuck was preceded in death by a son, Charles Edward Davey; and a brother, Joe Davey.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Carolyn Piper of Las Vegas, Nev., and Linda (Eric) Hofmann of Butler, Tenn.; two sons, Bob (Robin) Davey of Fairfax Station, Va., and Bill Davey of Zelienople; nine grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.

Chuck is also survived by his sister, Barbara Bennett Gordon; and several nieces and nephews.
