Dewayne Majors

Majors

Dewayne R. “Buck” Majors, 85, of Jackson Township, passed on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Born April 29, 1937, in Rochester, he was the son of the late Roy and Verdella Majors.

Dewayne was a member of St. Peter’s Reformed Church, where he served as deacon, an elder and a trustee.

He was the co-founder and owner of Hufnagel & Majors Trailer Sales in Harmony, which opened in 1964. Dewayne was a founding member of the original Pittsburgh RV Show.

Dewayne was a chairman of the board of Jackson Township supervisors, serving as supervisor for six years. He belonged to several organizations, including the Baden Bowling Association, the Butler Bowling Association, the American Legion of Unionville and the Western PA Horseshoe Pitchers Association. He was also a lifetime member of the Harmony Moose Lodge 957, and a member of the Butler County Horseshoe League for over 40 years.

Dewayne was an avid bowler and won the state championship in bowling. He followed USBC Bowling for over 30 years. He also won the Horseshoe Tournament State Class B Championship in 2006, and secured a place in the Horseshoe Hall of Fame.

He was an avid hunter and fisher, taking trips to Alaska and British Columbia, and making numerous deer-hunting trips to Colorado and Wyoming with Don Domhoff. In his early years, Dewayne raced cars and traveled all over the country. He also worked in his younger years farming, sheering sheep and blocklaying. He worked eight years at Halstead Mitchell. Dewayne also once owned an archery shop and a go-cart shop.

Dewayne loved gardening, often competing in a “friendly” competition with relatives for the first ripe tomato of the season.

He is survived by three children, Joanne M. Ray of Prospect, JeanAnn Eberhardt of Zelienople and Edward R. Majors of Zelienople.

He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Lisa Majors of Virginia.

Buck was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, who will consistently believe “they were his #1,” as well as 19 great-grandchildren that we KNOW were his #1.

Dewayne is also survived by his sister, Nancy Bonzo (Lester) of New Sewickley Township; his twin brothers, Dale and Gale Majors (Judy) of Rochester; a sister, Donna Dietrick (Al) of Arizona; and his best friend and cousin, Jack Smith. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Jean D. (Hufnagel) Majors; his brother, Clifford; his son, David; and his grandson, Matthew.

After his wife passed away, Buck married Joanne Herbe on Dec. 11, 2011, and became the stepfather of Glenn Herbe (Cindi) of Karns City, Randy Herbe (Denise) of Fombell and Shari Heller (Michael) of Reserve Township.
