Sankey

Helen Josephine Sankey, 97, of West Sunbury, passed peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family next to her on April 26, 2023.

She was born Sept. 26, 1925, in North Washington, at the Logut Dairy Farm, and was the daughter of the late Katherine (Senick) Logut and late Anthony “Tony” Logut.

Helen graduated from Concord High School in Hooker, while having perfect attendance in her first eight years of school. She graduated from Maison Felix Beauty School and became owner/operator of her own beauty shop for several years. Helen also worked for years at Moniteau School District Dassa McKinney in the cafeteria.

She was a member of St. Faustina Parish-St. Louis Church in West Sunbury. She was Eucharistic minister for many years and worked at the fish fries. Her faith sustained her through many family tragedies.

She retired after 50 years as a Judge of Elections for the West Sunbury precinct. She was a member of the General Federation of Women’s Club in Grove City, and served two terms as president. She enjoyed puzzles, Fill-In books, corresponding with friends, and her beautiful flower garden. Her greatest joys were her family and holiday gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur D. Sankey; her sons, Larry Sankey and Artie Sankey Jr.; her daughters, Christine (Sankey) Rothman and Veronica (Sankey) Morrow; her sons-in-law, Terry Moore, Carl Morgain and Dr. David Rothman; her daughter-in-law, Cherie Sankey; and her siblings, Joe Logut, Mary Rozic, Katherine Tiche and Anne Ganger.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Sherri (Sankey) Moore of North Washington, and Janice (Sankey) Morgain of Saxonburg.

Helen also is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Passavant and Butler Memorial Hospital as well as the Amedysis Hospice for their kind words and excellent care.

SANKEY — Family and friends of Helen Josephine Sankey, who died Wednesday, April 26, 2023, will be received for visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury, with Father Sean Francis as celebrant.

Burial will follow at West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
