Heating assistance deadline looming
The deadline to apply for a one-time Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grant is approaching.
Those who meet eligibility requirements can receive from $300 to $2,000 to help with heating bills, but must apply by April 28.
Peoples Natural Gas offers the Peoples ProgramFinder, where customers can determine if they are eligible for LIHEAP assistance and begin the grant application process quickly.
Peoples also offers income-based gas payments, budget billing and a weatherization program to help customers lower their energy consumption and monthly bills, according to a news release from Peoples.
LIHEAP assistance is available to single customers earning up to $20,385 up to a family of four with an income below $41,625.
The minimum LIHEAP grant is $300, and the highest is a crisis grant of $2,000 for eligible customers without heat or in danger of losing service.
Low-income customers of all gas or other heating utility companies can apply for LIHEAP on the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services website: dhs.pa.gov.
