70 grams of suspected meth found at traffic stop

State police apprehended a Butler man at a traffic stop last week and found 70 grams of suspected methamphetamine and several other drugs.

Steven M. Amon II, 50, was charged with felony drug sales, misdemeanors driving under the influence and use and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to documents filed Friday, April 14.

Amon was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Chicora Road and Kittanning Pike, Fairview Township, at 2:49 a.m. Thursday, April 13. Police said the vehicle was traveling at a slow speed. Amon was found to be the driver, and police observed him to have pinpoint pupils, which can be caused by certain drugs.

Police said Amon gave consent for a vehicle search. Officers recovered 70 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 40 stamp bags of suspected fentanyl, suspected marijuana and THC gummies, suspected crack cocaine, four cellphones and additional SIM cards, and 10 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition.

Two concealable magnetic boxes also were discovered, a search of those recovered a black scale, red straw residue, 18 small glassine bags and a black dash camera.

Amon’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Lewis Stoughton is scheduled April 18.
