Butler grad Bocci gets Top 10 award

LOCK HAVEN — Butler graduate David Biocci, a sophomore on the Clarion University men’s swimming team, has become the first Golden Eagle to win a PSAC Winter Top 10 award in three years.

The Top 10 awards, selected by the league’s sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom and in competition. Bocci is the first Clarion swimmer to win a Top 10 award in more than a decade.

Bocci was the PSAC’s Men’s Swimmer of the Year and was an All-American in the 200-meter butterfly this season. The minimum grade point average for an athlete to be eligible for a Top 10 award is 3.50.

Bercurys get win in harness racing

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Desperado Hall, owned by Bill Bercury of Slippery Rock, won an $8,000 Conditioned Claiming Trot during harness racing action Friday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

The 4-year-old gelding finished the race in a career-best 1 minute, 57 seconds.

Hedges returns to Pirates roster

St. LOUIS — Veteran catcher Austin Hedges was activated by the Pittsburgh Pirates prior to Friday night’s game in St. Louis. He had been on the concussion injured list.

Catcher Tyler Heineman has been optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis to make room for Hedges. Right-handed pitcher Chase De Jong has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a muscle strain and right-handed pitcher Robert Stephenson has been reinstated to the Pirate roster after completing a rehab assignment.
