'Jackets lacrosse stings Cougars

Saige Smith netted six goals and a pair of assists to lead Freeport’s girls lacrosse team to a 12-10 victory Friday afternoon at Yough.

Ava Dreher had three goals and three assists while Lillie Snow had two goals and four assists in the win.

Abby Watson scored her first career goal. Arabella Burtt and Kianna Armstead both had an assist.

Freeport travels to Butler on Monday.

Baseball

A.J. Capizzi had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs as Seneca Valley remained perfect this season thanks to a 7-2 win at Gateway.

Winning on the mound for the Raiders (9-0) was junior Zyler Freedman, who struck out five and walked none in four innings.

Softball

Mia Ryan doubled twice and Anna Kalko singled twice — both players collecting two RBI — to lead Seneca Valley’s offense in a 6-1 win over Canon-McMillan.

Lexie Hames pitched a 3-hitter with 13 strikeouts to earn the win.

Kara Pasquale added a triple for the Raiders (7-1, 6-1).

Butler 5, Baldwin 1 — Kelsey Ogin pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and drove in three runs to lead the Golden Tornado (2-7) to this road win.

Butler, which also received a triple from Gracie Negley, broke the ice with three runs in the third inning. The Highlanders did not score until the bottom of the seventh.

Track and Field

Karns City junior Ava Fox earned first-place efforts in the shot put, high jump and triple jump to help the Gremlin girls defeat North Clarion, 109-41, on Thursday.

KC took the top spot in each of the seven field events.

Moniteau’s girls proved too much for Redbank Valley, topping the Bulldogs 96-53 on Thursday. Rylee Long snagged first place in the 200 dash, high jump and triple jump.

Jonathan Price ran the 110 hurdles in 15.17 seconds and Jayden Price went 43 feet, 8 inches in the triple jump as Seneca Valley’s boys dominated North Hills, 118-32.

In girls action, the Raiders defeated the Indians, 129-21.

Boys Tennis

Mars’ No. 1 doubles team of Ethan Palmer and Evan Palmiero took first place while Patrick Miko and Jaxon Hittle won at No. 2 doubles to help the Planets finish in second place as a team at the Midwestern Athletic Conference championships, held at Beaver High School.
