Police seize suspected methamphetamine, other substances in city search

Suspected methamphetamine and other unknown substances were seized from a residence in the 200 block of Brown Avenue during a search Wednesday, April 12, by the Butler County Drug Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration.

Zachary T. Ryan, 45, of Butler was charged with felony drug possession and misdemeanor counts of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said when notified of the search warrant at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Ryan attempted to flee into the Brown Avenue residence and was restrained. Ryan was searched, and the task force found multiple syringes and $266, according to the affidavit.

In the home, police said they found a Ziploc bag containing about 3.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a “battery charger housing unit that had been hollowed out of its internal electronics,” which contained more suspected methamphetamine.

In addition, multiple cellphones, a box of unused green stamp bags, which police say is the typical packaging material for heroin or fentanyl in the Butler area, 10 full stamp bags, a small cylindrical container with an “unknown white powder,” a black headphones case with suspected methamphetamine, a digital scale, and three ink pads for stamps were also found, according to documents.

The search is part of an ongoing drug investigation, according to police. In total, approximately 4.5 ounces of suspected methamphetamine was found in the residence, police said.

Ryan was arraigned Wednesday, April 12, before District Judge Lewis Stoughton and was placed in Butler County Prison. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
