Karns City track and field beats Redbank

Karns City’s boys track and field team defeated Redbank Valley by an 86-64 final Tuesday, with the Gremlins taking first place in seven of eleven events on the oval.

Levi Hawk won the 110-meter hurdles (16.6 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (44.1), and Braden Slater finished first in the 200-meter dash (23.4). Micah Rupp posted a high jump of five feet, 10 inches to come out on top in that event.

On the girls’ side, the Gremlins won, 98-52. Sophia Bonetto won three events — the 3,200-meter run, the 1,600-meter run, and the 800-meter run. Ava Fox placed first in the shot put and triple jump, McKenna Martin in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter relay, and Chloe Fritch in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

Baseball

Chase Winstead and Benji Astbury both picked up three RBIs on the day as Mars beat West Allegheny at home, 9-3. Winstead had two hits and two walks on the day. Jacob Maple went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove two more runners in, while Charlie Bickel went 4.1 innnings and struck out five as the winning hurler.

Knoch 7, Highlands 2 — The Knights knotted up their series with the Rams with Zane Pacek on the bump. He turned in six innings of work and conceded one earned run in the win.

Brady Wozniak finished with three hits and just as many runs, while both Mason Phillips and Sean Morgan had multi-hit performances. Jacob Stallsmith added two RBIs.

Boys Tennis

Seneca Valley improved to 7-2 on the season with a 5-0 home victory over Gateway. Michael deVyver, Mark Evelsizer, and Nathan Craig all won their singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and Peter Ko and Tom Beresynak followed suit in the first doubles pairing.

The Gators’ Blake Marsh and Troy Boden put up a fight against the Raiders’ Graham Logue and Logan McKinney in the second doubles, but the latter duo came out on top 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.

Knoch 5, Springdale 0 — The Knights recorded their second win by sweeping the Dynamos.

Moon 5, Butler 0 — Ben Busler’s matchup with Aarav Surapaneni was the highlight of this defeat for the Golden Tornado. Despite a hard-fought effort, Busler bowed to Surapaneni by a score of 4-6, 5-7.

Softball

Lexie Hames set down 15 Pine-Richland batters on strikes and also whacked a home run as Seneca Valley beat the Rams, 10-0, on Monday. Kylie Staudt added a hit and three RBIs, Kara Pasquale two base knocks and two RBIs, and Neve Miller a hit and two RBIs.

Karns City 15, Keystone 13 — The Gremlins won this high-scoring road affair as Addison Burrows, Jessica Dunn, and Jada Polczynski each had three-hit showings. Dunn and Polczynski had two RBIs apiece and Karns City totaled 14 base knocks.

North Allegheny 9, Butler 5 — Kelsey Ogin struck out seven and homered for the Golden Tornado. Gracie Negley and Lily Vicari both had a single and RBI for Butler and Madi Wolfe doubled.

The Tornado host Hempfield in a section game Wednesday.

Forest Area 13, Union/A-C Valley 3 — The Falcon Knioghts dropped to 1-3 with the loss. Bella Ielase had two singles while Emerson Stevenson singled, scored a run and had an RBI.

Union/A-C Valley hosts Cranberry on Thursday.

Girls Lacrosse

Ava Dreher and Saige Smith both scored a pair of goals, but Freeport dropped an 18-5 decision at North Hills on Monday night. Lillie Snow also scored.

Abby Leggin had eight saves in goal.

Boys Volleyball

Mars swept Armstrong by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-19. No other details were provided.

Shaler 3, Butler 0 — The Golden Tornado were swept by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 26-24. Alex Moncello had 29 assists for Butler and Adam Kaufman 15 digs. Coleton Welter added 15 kills.

Butler (4-2, 3-3) plays Summit Academy at home on Thursday.
