Locals open college careers

A number of Butler County products made their college track and field debuts at the North Carolina State Relays, held Thursday through Saturday.

Butler graduate CJ Singleton, a freshman at Notre Dame, ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8 minutes, 52 seconds to finish 13th out of 70 competitors. Also from Butler, Duke University’s Guinness Brown placed 15th out of 87 in the 400 run with a personal-best time of 48.3.

Seneca Valley product Luke Simpson, now at Pitt, ran the 1,500 run in 3:51.3 and placed 103rd out of 200.
