Vittone gets 4 hits in GCC victory
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Seven Fields resident and Eden Christian graduate Luke Vittone collected four hits — including a home run — in Grove City College’s 11-4 baseball win over Trine on Tuesday.
The Wolverines had 17 hits in the game. Cranberry Township resident and North Catholic graduate Robby Randolph pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Mars grad Anderson shines in defeat
TAMPA, Fla. — Mars graduate Jack Anderson collected a pair of singles, but the University of Pittsburgh baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision at South Florida Tuesday night.
The Panthers (7-6) open Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend at Florida State.
Pirates swing deal with Texas Rangers
BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired infielder/outfielder Mark Mathias from the Texas Rangers for a player to be named later.
Mathias, 28, was designated for assignment by Texas on March 3. He hit .322 with nine homers and 34 RBI in Class AAA last season. He hit .277 for the Rangers in the final month and a half of the 2022 campaign, hitting five homers and getting 16 RBI.
Mathias has played right field, second base, left field, first base, third base and center field in his big league career.
