Miller Minutes

Miller Minutes with Butler Eagle reporter, Molly Miller

There’s so much anxious anticipation in the arts world. We’re always looking ahead at the next project, constantly preparing for “the big show” or the like. All the hard work boils down to a single moment.

When I was growing up and performing, I never took enough time to slow down and enjoy the stage of the process I was in. I wanted to fly through rehearsals, so much so that I didn’t take time to get to know people I was working with.

This tendency to fly through work to get to the fun translates to everyday life as well. We miss opportunities or dread time in certain spaces, always looking ahead.

Stop and smell the roses this weekend, in your art or hobby, and in your life. If you need help slowing down, check out the events below.

Don’t miss Butler Little Theatre’s final performances of “The Lifespan of a Fact” this weekend. Shows pick back up at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, and 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11. For tickets and more information, visit butlerlittletheatre.com.

Tickets for “Company,” a Musical Theater Guild production, are on sale now at mtgbutler.org for the March 24 through 26 and March 31 and April 1 performances. If you go, you may see a familiar face.

St. Peter’s Reformed Church craft show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

Line dance the night away at Saxonburg Fireman’s Club, 155 Pittsburgh St., on Saturday, March 11. The dance floor opens at 7 p.m., and dancing starts at 8 p.m. for those age 21 and older.

Help churches that feed the hungry of Butler at the Community Dinner and Art Show on Saturday, March 11. See works by local artists, hear local music and more. The fun begins at 6 p.m. in St. Michael’s Hall, 432 Center Ave., for $25 a ticket. Purchase a ticket at First English Lutheran Church, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, First United Methodist Church, New Beginnings Free Methodist Church or North Street Christian Church.

Learn how maple syrup is made and eat flapjacks at a Pancake and Maple Bonanza at 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 12, at Succop Nature Park. Register for $15 by visiting aswp.org/events.

Books and Ladders is a joint fundraiser featuring live, local bands, food and activities. Join the Prospect Community Library and Prospect Borough Fire Department at 373 Main St. starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12.

Area residents can join members of Opus I Music Society on Monday, March 13, to learn about shape notes, the early 19th century music notation for singers taught in England and the United States. Refreshments start at 9:30 a.m., and the program begins at 10 a.m. The meeting is at LifePointe Alliance Church, 997 Route 228, in Adams Township.
