Community meeting coming for drug and alcohol use

The Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center and Butler County Community College are sponsoring a community discussion on addiction and treatment issues in a forum setting Tuesday.

According to a Thursday news release from the Gaiser Center, the agency has fielded requests for information and educational materials from numerous school districts that are facing “a huge influx of vapes and THC vapes in schools,” as well as ongoing issues related to underage drinking, and the misuse of opioids and other drugs.

A panel discussion and question-and-answer period will be presented by Brian White, superintendent of Butler Area School District; Joseph DeMore, warden of the Butler County Prison; Patricia Pritchard, director of community employment development for BC3; Alyssa Vorel and Cassandra Hoak, trauma-informed care providers for the Gaiser Center; and Crystal Irwin, representative of the Center of Excellence for opioid use disorder treatment at the Gaiser Center.

The event will run from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at BC3 Founders Hall. It is free to register and open to the public.
