SRU basketball falls in PSAC tourney

JOHNSTOWN — Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball season ended Monday night with a 76-73 loss at Pitt-Johnstown in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament.

The Rock closed the year at 17-12. UPJ advances with a 20-9 record.

Lashon Lindsey and Amante Britt had 15 points each for The Rock. Lindsey had five rebounds, Britt four assists. Britt leaves the program as SRU’s all-time leader in games started with 115.

Butler hockey season ends with defeat

VALENCIA — Butler ended its varsity hockey season recently with an 11-4 loss to Thomas Jefferson at the Frozen Pond.

Brayden Hardsock had a goal and assist for the Golden Tornado. Carter Blystone, Carson Bish and Adam Deal scored goals as well. Kaidon Vorel made 39 saves in goal.

Knoch grad Boyer Newcomer of Year

ERIE — Knoch graduate and Penn Strate Behrend freshman Madilyn Boyer hass been named Newcomer of the Year for women’s basketball in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

Boyer was also a first team All-AMCC selection.

She led the AMCC in field goal percentage at 52.3 and 3-point field goal percentage at 40.2. She averaged 15.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

SV graduate Bush makes All-AMCC

ALTOONA — Senecva Valley graduate and Penn State Altoona junior forward Mason Bush has been named third team All-AMCC in men’s basketball.

Bush ranked fifth in the AMCC with 51 treys. He averaged 11.2 points per game and grabbed 100 rebounds.

SRU athletes gain PSAC honors

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s Gabriela del Val del Toro and Alex Robenolt have been named PSAC West Women’s Tennis and Baseball Player of the Week, respectively.

del Val del Toro is 12-4 in singles this season, 8-6 in doubles. She advanced to the finals of the PSAC Singles Championships.

Robenolt hit .471 in four games last week, compiling five runs scored, three homers and seven RBI.
