Walter Hoover
Happy birthday to my dad, Walter Henry Streitman Hoover. He was born on February 28, 1927 and lead a full, rewarding life. He was born in Butler, raised in Renfrew, saw the world. He loved math, science, and music, loved fruit, vegetables, and fresh air, kept an immaculate yard, and could build or fix anything. He loved Limburger cheese and made an exceptionally good bean soup. In a million ways, he sacrificed for and nurtured a large family who will be forever in his debt. He died, too soon, in 2007, at the young age of 80.
I miss my dad. But when I’m overcome by his loss and the tears fall, I remind myself that he was a fine man who can best be memorialized by living honorably myself, and I try to do so, in his honor.
