5 county teams in D-9 hoop playoffs
Five Butler County-area high school basketball teams will be involved in the District 9 playoffs. The schedule follows.
Girls
Class 3A: No. 2 Kane (11-10) vs. No. 1 Karns City (14-8), championship game, 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium
Class 2A: No. 3 Coudersport (16-6) vs. No. 2 Moniteau (17-5), semifinal, 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at Brockway High School
Boys
Class 3A: No. 2 Moniteau (12-10) vs. No. 1 Brookville (19-2), championship, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium
Class 2A: No. 6 Port Allegany (13-7) vs. No. 3 Karns City (20-3), quarterfinal, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Karns City High School
Class 1A: No. 6 Union (12-11) vs. No. 3 Clarion (15-8), quarterfinal, 7 p.m. Friday at Clarion High School
Butler grad Bocci helps set relay mark
YORK — Butler graduate and Clarion University swimmer David Bocci swam a leg of the school record-setting 400-meter medley relay during the PSAC Championships.
Bocci, Connor Cary, Paul Flowers and Dominic Cortopassi swam the event in 3 minutes, 20.45 seconds, two seconds faster than the previous record set in two seconds.
Plank, Ledford shine at PAC Championships
GROVE CITY — Slippery Rock resident and Portersville Christian graduate Emma Plank, a Grove City College swimmer, took fourth in the 500 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 24.07 seconds at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships.
Plank joined Butler graduate Rachel Ledford, Sarah Kuchma and Sarah Gann in winning the 800 free relay in 7:56.37.
Johnston, Brown win in harness racing
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Cholula picked up a win for trainer/driver Aaron Johnston of Evans City during harness racing action Thursday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The 4-year-old mare captured an $11,500 Conditioned Trot.
Elsewhere on the card, Born A Rebel scored victory for driver Brady Brown, a Slippery Rock resident, in an $8,800 Conditioned Claiming Pace.
