Butler grad Singleton in ACC Championship
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Butler graduate and Notre Dame freshman distance runner CJ Singleton placed fourth in the men’s mile at the University of Wisconsin’s Windy City Invite recently.
His time of 4 minutes, 0.4 seconds qualified him for the ACC Coast Conference Championships, slated for the University of Louisville on Feb. 24-25.
2022 Pa. bear harvest ranks 14th all-time
Pennsylvania hunters harvested 3,170 black bears in 2022, the total slightly down from the 3,621 in 2021, but still ranking 14th all-time in the state.
Three bears of more than 700 pounds and 11 topping 600 pounds were among the harvest. There were 40 bears harvested in Butler County, compared to 43 in 2021.
Middleton, Gibson earn PSAC honors
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women’s basketball players Isabellah Middleton and Deleah Gibson have been named PSAC West Athlete and Defensive Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Middleton averaged 22.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for three games, adding five steals and three assists. Gibson averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while totaling 10 steals.
SRU’s Dworek named top field athlete
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior Bryan Dworek has been named PSAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Dworek won the long jump at the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games with an SRU record and NCAA provisional mark of 7.44 meters. The previous Rock record of 7.38 meters was set in 1989.
