SRU scores sweep at Edinboro
EDINBORO — Trailing by 14 points early, the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team rallied for a 78-63 victory Saturday at Edinboro.
The Rock (14-11, 9-10) won at Edinboro for the first time since 2009. The Fighting Sots slipped to 15-8 overall, 12-6 in PSAC play.
SRU is one game behind Seton Hill for the sixth and final tournament spot in the PSAC West.
Deleah Gibson scored 25 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, tallied five assists and five steals for SRU. Jada Ward scored a career--high 17 points and contributed five rebounds. Isabellah Middleton had 15 points and eight rebounds, Kennedy Middleton 11 points and eight boards.
Butler graduate Jordan Kauffman contributed six points and six rebounds as SRU is within one victory of clinching its first winning season since 2001-02. Bella Burrelli led Edinboro with 17 points.
SRU (men) 68, Edinboro 66 — The Rock improved to 15-10 overall, 9-10 in PSAC play and clinched its fifth consecutive winning season, along with a berth in the upcoming PSAC tournament.
Edinboro slipped to 5-18, 3-15.
Trailing by eight in the second half, SRU scored the go-ahead bucket on a Jomo Goings layup with 21 seconds remaining. Dylan Ahearn added a free throw with four seconds left and a desperation 3-point shot by the Fighting Scots was no good at the buzzer.
Lashon Lindsey paced The Rock with 17 points and seven rebounds. Goings and Ahmad Galimore had 10 points each and three assists. Goings had three steals. Amante Britt scored eight points and had four assists.
Dominique Keyes had 15 points and 15 rebounds for Edinboro.
Both Slippery Rock teams play this Saturday at Indiana (Pa.).
