Sarvey 70th anniversary
Earl and Lena “Gert” Sarvey of Renfrew celebrated 70 years of marriage with a celebration Jan. 7 at the youth center of First Baptist Church, Butler.
Sarvey married the former Lena Shields on Jan. 3, 1953, in Virginia.
They have five children, Diana and Jonathan Hill of Kittanning; Donna and David Hughes of Denver, Colo.; David and Peggy Sarvey of Renfrew; Faye and Roy Patterson of West Sunbury; and Matthew and Kathryn Sarvey of Riverton, Wy.
They also have 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Sarvey served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He worked at MD Sarvey Plumbing & Heating, then at Pullman Standard for 25 years until it closed. He then worked as a custodian at First Baptist Church & Christian School until he retired in 1996.
He is a member of First Baptist Church and the Berean Sunday School Class. He is a talented woodworker and enjoys gardening and working outside. In the past, he and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling.
Mrs. Sarvey was a homemaker, until she joined her husband as custodian at First Baptist Church & Christian School, where she retired in 1996.
She is a member of First Baptist Church and the Berean Sunday school class. In years past, Mrs. Sarvey loved to cook and bake (especially wedding cookies). She opened her home to many guests, missionaries and family.
