SRU softball 7th in preseason poll
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s women’s softball team is picked to finish seventh among the PSAC West’s nine teams this spring in the preseason coaches poll.
Mercyhurst is picked to win the West, followed by Seton Hill, California (Pa.), Gannon, Indiana, Pitt-Johnstown, SRU, Edinboro and Clarion. Shippensburg is picked to win the PSAC East.
Mars hockey players in all-star game
ADAMS TWP — Mars senior hockey defenseman Ian Edinger and sophomore forward Sam Steigerwald have received berths in the PIHL Class 2A All-Star Game.
The All-Star Game will be played at 5 p.m. Sunday at Robert Morris University’s Island Sports Center.
York, Brown win in harness racing
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Despite a sloppy track, Madison Queen rolled to her second consecutive victory for owner/trainer Mitchell York of Cranberry Township during harness racing action Wednesday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The 3-year-old filly won a $9,000 Conditioned Pace.
Slippery Rock’s Brady Brown drove Killjoy to victory in the day’s co-feature, a $10,900 Conditioned Trot.
