In the name of transparency
Since the pandemic nearly three years ago, the Knoch School District livestreamed its Board meetings and posted video of those meetings on its website. The livestreaming ceased recently due to lack of participation. Fortunately, the videos remained. In the last month, not only have the videos been discontinued, but the videos that had been available on knochsd.org have systematically disappeared. The public record of previous meetings has been deleted.
I believe those videos provided a valuable service to our community, and in the name of transparency, I think they should be returned. The public deserves to know what happens in those meetings. Parents, students, teachers, taxpayers and other interested parties should have easy access to videos of all school board meetings.
Just this past Wednesday there were a variety of speakers, but most importantly, there was a presentation by Draw Collective on the plans for the high school renovation. There were drawings and blueprints of the exciting plans for the future of our school. Written minutes of that meeting will never adequately capture that presentation for so many stakeholders who deserve a look at what's in store.
The cost of the video cannot be that great. We know we can do it … we've been doing it for the last three years. We are taxpayer funded. We should make it as easy as possible for the public to know what goes on in those meetings. It should not be hard to do.
