Freedom to pray

The parent in the article titled: “Parent knocks Knoch meeting invocation,” published on Jan. 6, claims it is illegal for the school board members to open their meetings with prayer because it violates the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

I was sure the U.S. Constitution granted us all freedom of religion, and that to me means we are allowed to pray.

He is concerned that their prayer asking for wisdom and God’s Spirit upon the board members as they make decisions for students, faculty and staff might offend someone. Perhaps it might, but I don't think we can save everyone in the district or the world from being offended by something.

He compared them to the hypocrites in the Bible. We are not to concern ourselves with that. God sees what is in our hearts when we pray.

Lastly, our freedom to pray comes from God not from our government. God first taught us to pray. He gave us the words to The Our Father.

I sincerely hope this parent will drop this issue.
