Seneca Valley graduate and New York University senior Jason Geyer has been named University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week in wrestling.

Geyer, 20-0 this season, won four matches last week, three by pin and one by technical fall. All three falls were posted in the first two minutes, including a nine-second pin against Caleb Zimmerman of Mount Union.

Geyer is ranked No. 6 nationally and No. 2 in the Northeast Region at 174 pounds.

Pirates get outfielder from Blue Jays

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired outfielder Chavez Young from the Toronto Blue Jays organization Tuesday in exchange for pitcher Zach Thompson.

Young, 25, was recognized for having the best outfield arm in the Blue Jays organization from 2019-22, according to Baseball America. He hit .237 with six homers, 22 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 70 games last season between Class AAA Buffalo and Class A Dunedin (rehab stint).

A switch-hitter, Young will attend the Pirates’ big league camp as a non-roster invitee.
