SRU basketball swept on road
EAST STROUDSBURG — Slippery Rock University’s basketball teams dropped a pair of games at East Stroudsburg Friday night.
The Rock men (9-2, 3-2) saw a three-game winning streak snapped with a 93-66 loss. East Stroudsburg (10-1, 4-1) applied a constant full-court [press that led to SRU’s season-high 22 turnovers. East Stroudsburg sank six 3-pointers in the first half.
Khalid Gates scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds for The Rock while Lashon Lindsey tallied 15 points and eight rebounds. Lindsey sank all seven of his shots from the field.
The Warriors, ranked third in all of NCAA Division II in scoring, were led by Carlos Pepin, who had 23 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Lakeem McAliley had 22 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
East Stroudsburg 50, SRU (women) 42 — The Rock slipped to 8-3 overall, 3-2 in PSAC play with this loss. SRU shot a season-worst 29.3% from the field.
Kennedy Middleton scored 12 points and snared 12 rebounds to pace The Rock. Isabellah Middleton added nine points, 10 rebounds and three steals while Deleah Gibson netted nine points.
Ryan Weise led East Stroudsburg (7-4, 3-2) with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.
Both Slippery Rock teams begin PSAC West play Wednesday against Gannon. The women’s game is at 5:30 p.m., the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. at Morrow Field House.
