Students compete in school’s chess tournament finals
Four Mars Area Centennial School students competed in the school’s Chess Tournament Finals, sponsored by the school’s Chess Club on May 23.
Sixth-grader Aarya Raut and fifth-grader Siddhartha Senthilkumar won the competition. Runners-up were sixth-grader Rhythm Srivastava and fifth-grader Isaiah Hayes.
The Chess Club was founded earlier this school year by a group of students in Jennifer Bradel’s sixth-grade class. The students, led by sixth-grader Teagan Thomas, submitted a proposal to Adam Kostewicz, principal, who approved the club and purchased chess boards and timers.
More than 100 students signed up for the Chess Club, which meets before school.
