4 ‘major’ road projects coming to Butler County
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation expects to begin four road projects in Butler County in 2023.
A Wednesday, April 5, news release from PennDOT said there are several large-scale projects occurring this year in Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson counties.
A “major realignment project” will add a travel lane in each direction and center turning lane to Balls Bend in Middlesex Township. It also includes the construction of four new structures, realigned local road connections, jug handles and a new signalized intersection at Route 228 and Parks Road. Completion is anticipated by January 2025.
The Three Degree Road Intersection project in Adams and Middlesex townships will create through lanes, turn lanes and side road improvements. It will also add service roads for access control, jug handles, a soldier pile retaining wall, drainage and guide rail upgrades, signal replacement, signage and pavement markings, sidewalks, ADA ramps and two roundabouts. The anticipated completion is November 2026.
The Portersville Bridge over Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township will be replaced by a new structure which will be a two-span composite steel multi-girder bridge. Its anticipated completion is summer 2024.
PennDOT will also widen Freedom Road and Haine School Road to Commonwealth Drive in Cranberry Township. The project includes the installation of new traffic signals, bicycle lanes, sidewalks and turn lanes. The project’s anticipated completion date is summer 2023.
