Mars New Year celebration hosts ‘Blast Off Dinner’
The Mars New Year organization of Mars Borough will host a “Blast Off Dinner” fundraiser on Feb. 23.
The red planet's year lasts nearly twice as long as an Earth year, and it celebrated its new year on Dec. 24, 2022. To commemorate this, Mars’ “Blast Off Dinner“ will begin a year-long celebration in the borough.
The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Steamfitters Event Center in Harmony. Dr. Tara Ruttely, a former NASA scientist, will be the keynote speaker. Ruttley worked in human exploration for the administration and is also a neuroscientist.
Astrobotic, a Pittsburgh-based lunar logistics company, also will present alongside other special guests.
Dinner will feature “Water from Mars” — a limited-edition, filtered water released by Stick City Brewing Company — the release of a Mars comic book by local students and an exhibition of 26 students’ Mars-themed artwork on display. The organization will also announce the “Martian of the Year.”
Tickets are available online for individuals or tables of eight. Registration includes dinner and drinks. The deadline to register is Feb. 9.
