Pittsburgh man charged for cocaine, heroin possession

A Pittsburgh man is facing charges for being in possession of several kinds of drugs and paraphernalia, Cranberry Township police said earlier this week.

Jonathan M. Packard, 34, was charged with seven misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of use and possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of driving under the influence, and several traffic citations following an incident on Oct. 29.

Police said they observed a Chevrolet Monte Carlo driving haphazardly on Rochester Road around 4 a.m. that day. Packard was identified as the driver, but told police he did not have his license with him.

Packard was asked to step out of the vehicle and consented to a pat down, where a knife was found in his waistband, police said. He told police there was cocaine in his pocket, according to charging documents.

The total amount of cocaine found on Packard was 14.7 grams, and $394 and a cellphone were also discovered, police said.

According to documents, a glass crack pipe, 3.2 grams suspected powder cocaine and a black backpack were found in Packard’s vehicle. In the bag were three cellphones and a digital scale.

A pouch was also found in the vehicle, which contained suspected cocaine, 9.9 grams of suspected heroin, one brick of suspected heroin, four suspected alprazolam tablets, three suspected oxycodone tablets, three suspected morphine tablets, two fentanyl patches, a razor blade, smoking pipes and screening material, according to police.

Packard showed signs of impairment, police said, and was taken to UPMC Cranberry for a blood test. Lab results said he had traces of cocaine and Benzolecgonine in his system on Oct. 29.

Packard is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin Flaherty on Jan. 20.
