Butler wrestlers win Kiski Duals

Expect anything.

That was Butler wrestling coach Scott Stoner’s mind-set entering the prestigious Kiski Duals Saturday.

“I figured we could go 5-0, 0-5 or somewhere in between,” Stoner said. “We had some close matches, which I knew would happen.

“It turned out to be one of the best days in the history of our program.”

The Golden Tornado won the Kiski Duals, going 5-0. Competing in Pool A of the 10-team event, Butler defeated Penn-Trafford 49-20, Peters Township 39-32, Hempfield 42-30 and Kiski Area 39-32.

Waynesburg Central — last year’s state runner-up — won Pool B, Butler winning the championship by defeating the Raiders 40-32.

Santino Sloboda won all five of his matches at 107 pounds and improved to 10-0 on the season. Finishing 4-1 were Kelley Schaukowitsch at 121, Kase Chopp at 139, Levi Donnel at 160 and Mickey Kreinbucher at 189. Kreinbucher’s lone loss was a 7-3 decision to last year’s WPIAL runner-up at 189.

The Tornado improved to 6-0 on the season. Butler hosts Seneca Valley Wednesday night.
