Mars cheerleaders take 2nd in event

CORAOPOLIS — The Mars Area High School competitive cheerleading team took second place overall at the “Battle in the ‘Burgh!” competition recently at Robert Morris University’s UPMC Events Center.

The Planets took first place in he Medium Game-Day division. Team members include seniors Alina Glentzer, Sydney Heim, Lucy Huggins, Elsa Scheide and Madalyn Schwartzbauer; junior Kelley Kozesky; sophomores Mackenzie Aufderheide, Ellie Koma, Gabriella Lapina, Brooke Southwell, Addisyn Vavala and Isabella Yoshioka; freshmen Riley Carrel, Josie Dressen, Alexandria Lefcakis, Paige Nicholson, Bella Staines, Avery Symchak, Teagan Tumulty and Addison Vargo.

Johnston gets win against 26-1 odds

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Evans City reasident Sghawen Johnsron drove Sports Teller to victory agtainast 26-1 odds during harness racing action Thursday at GHollywood Casino at The Meadows.

The 3-year-old gelding captured an $11,500 Conditioned Pace in a career-best 1 minute, 54.4 seconds.

SV grad Redilla earns another honor

NEW WILMINGTON — Seneca Valley graduate and Westminster College senior women’s soccer player Julia Redilla has been named first team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference.

Redilla, a midfielder, earned her second straight All-ECAC award. She scored 11 goals, four assists and 26 points this season.

Commonweath Clash back at Lernerville

BUFFALO TWP — The traditional Commonwealth Clash returns to Lernerville Speedway in 2023 as part of the High Limit Series schedule. The Sprint race will take place Sept. 26 and pays $50,000 to the winner.

It will become the highest paying Sprint car event in Lernerville history.

The High Limit Series will also have races California, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, South Dakota, Nebraska and New Jersey.
